Our Energy Policy is a Drag on Our Economy

Importing oil and gas from away sends $6 billion out of our state. We have no fossil fuel deposits. Fossil fuel-based energy is a drain on our local economy, but we can change this.

Making energy-saving retrofits and switching to homegrown sources of energy including solar and wind can keep our energy dollars at home and create new living-wage jobs. Installing insulation and replacing leaky windows saves money and puts Mainers to work.

The solar industry now employs more than 200,000 people across the U.S. and is adding workers nearly 12 times faster than the overall economy. If we change our priorities, we can achieve energy independence in Maine with renewable energy and conservation.
